Oriental Residence – Bangkok

Bangkok…. If you’ve been, you have a story about it. It is a bustling, vibrant city with a traditional culture and a world renowned night life.

I have been here a few times, (usually for a couple of days en route to Thailand) and have discovered some pretty awesome places that dont appear in your standard guidebooks. I actually think that the best restaurants, bars and bar areas are not those that you will be commonly recommended, but when they are…. you’ll be seriously grateful.

With this in mind, you may think you know the coolest place to stay… I will assume you have stayed here then because the Oriental Residence, is seriously cool.

With 145 suites, the decor in each is classic luxury with high spec, multi detail and furnishings. I stayed here for only 2 nights (1 and a half if you consider that we arrived at about 11pm).

Rooms:

I had a 1 bedroom suite, which at 70 square metres is frankly bigger than most. It is worth mentioning that the 3 Bed Suite is 160 Square metres…. which is basically bigger than most central London apartments.

One-Bedroom Suites are designed with a “decor that is a provocative contrast to the traditional luxurious elegance.” and you can choose your suite with a City View/Park View or Corner view with views of both.

Other than the amazing hardwood and marble flooring, my absolute favourite thing within my suite was a Cream and brown leather trunk which they use as a TV stand. I literally loved it and I am still trying to source one for myself.

The Rooftop Pool:

Now, I need to be clear when I say this… This. is. stylish.

Decked out with insanely comfortable sun-loungers and Arabian style drape day beds.. You feel very much like you are at an incredibly exclusive sanctuary high above the bustling city below. It feels like no-one knows that 32 floors up, there is a chilled out style mecca with impecable service and panoramic views.

Should laying horizontally not be your thing, then i found myself sat in enclosed tear drop sofa pods that look more like Hersheys kisses than furniture. If they served actual Hersheys Kisses in these, I would probably never leave.

Should you want to throw a party here, they’ve got you covered with the Play Room. The room is essentially big enough to host an Oscar party and has both natural daylight and a panoramic view of nearby Embassy Gardens and Bangkok skyline.

How many people does it take to fill a play room you ask? 80 people for private lunch/dinner or 120 people (Including yours truly) for a cocktail reception.

Restaurants:

First, we have Cafe Claire. This is the hotels Breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea hotspot. Furnished with dark leather booths in a light and airy room, the boutique style atmosphere combines sleek stylish decor with a relaxed ambience. The breakfast here is pretty legendary (Or at least it has become so since we have told people).

They also have the French-inspired Savelberg Thailand restaurant. Created by one of Europe’s most respected chefs (Henk Savelberg). No big deal, but he is the only Dutch native to be awarded a Michelin star in his four different restaurants. Yes. This is fact.

So… If you like your Bangkok with a twist of luxury, then you should give this place a go. Oh, I’ll be back….
