Riva Sud – Barberino Di Mugello

Riva Sud has a certain rustic Italian charm to it and is frankly a little undersold as it serves some great food and their wine list is pretty impressive also.

The first thing i will say is – GET DIRECTIONS. We drove around Barberino (which is essentially lit by moonlight exclusively) for about 30 minutes, until our satnav finally brought us to what i believe is the inspiration for every horror movie ever made – an isolated farmland tree clearing with no lights, no signal and frankly no chance.

After the most dramatic wheel screeching car manoeuvre, we stumbled upon it out of pue luck as their satnavs are not equipped for roads such as “that one past the house that looks pink with the swing near it”

Food:

Food Includes Tuscan/ Mugello classics such as maltagliati, Tortelli or pappardelle with wild boar, cold cuts etc. Though the pizzas are what really puts this place on the “map”… Obviously I use this term loosely. Classic pizzas with local cheeses and fresh meats and herbs make even the biggest carbophobe commit carbicide.

On a weekend, from 23:30, the restaurant turns into an open air bar/club. That said, we went on a Tuesday so it was a little more quiet, but sometimes in Italy …. il cibo fa parlare.
