Joël Robuchon at MGM Grand (Michelin 3*) – Las Vegas, USA

When you think of Vegas, you instantly think of flashing lights, the sound of slot machines and a sleepless trip. In a town where the house always wins, there is one place that the odds are in your favour. Hello Joël Robuchon at the MGM Grand.

Now, I am no stranger to Vegas and there are a definitely no shortage of high calibre restaurants, but finding a Michelin star restaurant is rare, finding a 3 Michelin starred, AAA Five Diamond restaurant restaurant is like hitting the jackpot.

Oh, and no biggie but Joël Robuchon was also awarded Chef of the Century by Gault Millau.

The restaurant was designed to resemble a “luxurious Art Deco townhouse complete with a lush garden terrace and marble floors.”…. Check!

Stepping from the chaos of the Casino through the doors feels like you may as well have stepped into a different country and you are instantly separate and enclosed in an incredibly lavish “house” with a Parisian Terrace and Aperitif Lounge.

Dark walls and high ceilings give you a feeling of grand elegance and it sets the bar for the evening incredibly high.

The Food:

I actually went here with family had the 16 Course, (Yes 16 Course) tasting menu for 8 of us.

What might that entail? The answer is EVERYTHING… Everything from the guide book of rich and luxurious flavours and a couple of other things also.

We started with the Signature *LE CAVIAR – Oscetra caviar served atop of king crab and a crustacean gelée. As impressive looking openers go, this was pretty punchy and was as delicious to eat as it is to the eye.

The dish of LE HOMARD – Main lobster in a thinly sliced turnip with sweet and sour dressing was the perfect way to set the mood. It was luxury from the very beginning and gave you an insight into the ingredients and detail you were about to experience.

You know that I love Truffle.  I also love Bacon and am more than a little fond of pastry… I mean it was almost too much for me to cope with when they brought out LA TRUFFE – Black truffle tart with confit onions and smoked bacon…. Yes.  Just marinade your mind in that thought for a second.

Another dish that needs to be discussed is LE BLACK COD – Caramelized black cod in a Malabar black pepper sauce with pak choy. I have had a fair share of Black Cod dishes as this i definitely of the best in my mind,  largely down to the sweet fish with the peppery sauce.

Now, a dish that will be met with some raised eyebrows is LES CUISSES DE GRENOUILLE – Frog leg fritters with garlic purée and parsley coulis. If you are the type of person that says, “I won’t eat Frogs legs” then I would say to you…. Pull yourself together and have a word with yourself. They are delicious and heres a little personal tuition for you…

Frogs legs have only a quarter of the calories in the same serving of Chicken thighs with almost zero fat and are packed with omega-3 acids, potassium and vitamin A. So, you know… win win.

There are obviously a few dishes that I have omitted but truthfully, no-one likes a total plot spoiler and this is something that you should experience for yourself…

Joel Robuchon is famous for his Signature Dessert spheres, like the Sphere de Sucre featuring a sugar sphere with yogurt sherbert.

However, here the best dessert is LE CHOCOLAT – Chocolate and cherry griottine “Black Forest”.

Black Forest

Truthfully, if you are looking for a quick light bite or a pre show nibble, then go somewhere else… I mean anywhere else.  This is somewhere that you plan to go to. This is somewhere that you save something special for.

This place is literally unforgettable…
